35 years – Folk afternoon

35 years – Folk afternoon

On Sunday the 18th of november 2012 we celebrated the 35th anniversary.
The gala concert was held under the theme „Tambura, trumpet and triangl“. Again we tried to shape the traditional with the new and the music with the dance to a homogeneous program. The children’s group danced to the folk song „Oj Jelena, Jelena“ and to the modern hit „Ja sam za ples“ of the pop-group Novi Fosili. Johanna and Heinz Hoffmann presented old folk tunes accompanied by the hurdy-gurdy, tambourine and fiddle. Former dancers chose two favourite dance sequences for their jubilee-performance after several years of inactivity.
In keeping with the overall theme of the afternoon, girls and women performed RAŽANAC, a dance dominated by mysticism, danced without music. As the dance leader gives commands to the kolo, the tempo of the dance is in her hands. The second part of the program was rounded up like a kaleidoscope, with soloists, violin, two saxophones, trumpets, drums, and a triangl, all combined to a tamburica-orchester. The songs were fast, airy, very light and playful. The drummer for example, came from behind, from the audience and was applauded enthusiastically. One of the hits was certainly the Lara-theme from the film Dr. Zhivago in an arrangement with two saxophones. Many did not know that in the past bagpipes simply belonged to the Croatian folk music in Burgenland. The combination of Western concert flute and tamburica was for many an entirely new, but very successful experience. As usual the bilingual „announcer duet“ led experienced, pleasant and very informative through the program. Members were honoured for their long membership: Maria Kornfeind for 20 years and Aida Radits for 10 years. Deputy chairwoman Melitta Handl thanked Birgit Dragschitz, Doris Repay-Schön, Niki Semeliker and Sonja Guttmann for their loyalty and trust, dedication and reliability for 35 years. They have been in the group from the very beginning. She thanked Angelika Kornfeind, the founder of the group for her 35-year-long guidance of the folk-group. Celebrating their 35-year-anniversariy, we wanted to show that a Burgenland-Croatian folk group is necessarily not only traditional, but can also be innovative. The audience was fascinated by the marvellous programme.
